Challenge: Making a Deep-Tone Gift Box Perform at Large Format

For this French premium tableware project, the packaging had to create a strong first impression before the product was seen. The brief required a deep-tone magnetic flip-top box with a large printed front panel, centered gold foil, and a corrugated-paper insert designed to organize and cushion tableware during handling and transport.

Dark, large-coverage printing introduces a demanding set of visual risks. Any color variation across the front panel can be immediately visible. Scratches, white dots, surface scuffs, pressure marks, and small registration shifts can interrupt the intended continuous color field. The gold foil element also needed to remain centered and cleanly presented against the dark ground, with foil coverage and placement controlled as part of the complete visual system.

The PackTonTon Engineering Team developed the outer box using 157g double-coated paper mounted to 1200g greyboard. The exterior uses 4C printing, scratch-resistant matte lamination, and gold foil stamping.
